Telecoms Case Studies

Telecoms Case Study 1: Refunds & Savings Audit - over £500,000 refund and circa £275,000 annual savings...

This client had at the time – and still has – all inbound & outbound voice and all WAN & LAN arrangements (including a VoIP solution) with a single supplier. The client was in need of returning numbers to the bottom line however they had previously been advised that no refunds or savings could be achieved in this area. Our challenge was set – find refunds and/or savings at our own risk. Within 6 months we had IMPLEMENTED a refund of over £400,000 and subsequently added a further £115,000 in refunds to the tally. The ongoing costs have also reduced by circa £275,000 per annum.

Telecoms Case Study 2: Procurement - £200,000 annual savings...

We were appointed to audit and tender the inbound & outbound services on behalf of a major hotel chain. Once we had removed all surplus services & lines from the existing arrangements we put together the appropriate tender documents, and managed the process from beginning to end. Savings were achieved on inbound (i.e. 0800, 0845, 0870) & outbound call charges, line rental costs & line rationalisation (i.e. removal of low/zero usage lines) and intricate analysis of all associated maintenance and other costs. £200,000 in total so far, and growing.

Telecoms Case Study 3: Invoice Management - £250,000 annual savings...

One of our proudest moments was beating off the competition to win a much coveted contract with arguably the World’s largest Law Firm. Our remit was to audit the existing Landline & Mobiles costs and achieve savings without changing supplier. We are also required to receive invoices from the various suppliers each month and verify the accuracy of the charges. Management Information Reports are also circulated to key members of the Management Team. Thus far our efforts have reduce the clients’ costs by close to £250,000 per annum, and we have just secured a second extension to our contract with them.

Telecoms Case Study 4: Pan European Cost Management - £80,000 refund, £100,000 + annual savings...

We are currently providing services across Europe for a number of clients. In one instance alone a client has received an £80,000 refund and is enjoying savings of over £100,000 per annum, with another £135,000 in the pipeline. As Europe is a more complex service offering than UK only services, more information is available from one of our Consultants or Directors should you wish to find out more.

Energy Case Studies

Energy Case Study 1: Electricity Procurement – Fixed Utility Purchasing...

Our remit:- Electricity Procurement across 35 sites UK wide.

Expenditure £2.4million per annum.

A Quarry company with the assistance of Informed has shown foresight in the procurement of their energy needs. The company, with the assistance of Informed’s “Market Watch” brief realised that the market had significantly fallen and would provide a 25% reduction in costs placed their October supply renewal business in February. In addition, the supply agreement was struck for 36 months. The supply agreement was also 100% Green. This has assisted their business in three ways: 1) cheaper operating costs, thus increasing bottom line profits, 2) certainty of costs into the future from a position when the market had softened near to its historical low point, 3) meeting the environmental needs of its customers by reducing its carbon footprint, which ultimately will win the company more business – boosting profits.

Energy Case Study 2: Flexible Utility Purchasing...

Our remit:- Electricity & Natural Gas Procurement, sites across the UK.

Expenditure £3.9million

A leading carpet underlay manufacturer contracted Informed to assist in the running of the flexible contract they had entered into for the period Oct 2005 through to March 2007. At the time the forecasted overspend was in the region of £1,000,000 - based on trades made and the forward price curve. Through putting in place a more active management to the purchasing process and a purchasing model, this overspend was trimmed to only £120,000 by the anniversary date of the contract.

Energy Case Study 3: Estate Management...

Our remit:- Consolidate the estate onto one group utility contract with a common end date.

Procurement is only as good as the data you provide to the suppliers. Informed were asked to replace the energy team of a multi site kitchen wholesaler/retailer. The estate had grown rapidly through acquisition. However, only 60% of sites knew who their supplier was and not all of these were on the group contract negotiated.

Through the implementation of a control procedure the Customer provides to Informed the property survey information pack of each new site. This pack includes the utilities meter serial numbers which are then tracked through MPAS to identifiy the supplier. This same routine is undertaken for all historical sites that have not received supplier bills for years - in one case 12 years!

This project whilst still ongoing has allowed the customer to budget and accrue far more accurately for their electricity expenditure and ultimately negotiate better rates as they now know the volumes and sites for whom they are purchasing.

Energy Study 4: Meter Operator...

A multi-site commercial organisation had a number of meter operators. The projects remit was to consolidate the MOP, improve data information AND reduce annual costs.

The MOP details were compiled ensuring that all existing contracts had no penalty clauses for early termination. An ITT was issued to the respective MOP’s requesting offers to include DC and HHD day+1.

The customer now has a single meter operator thus reducing administration costs (single invoice), improved financial accounting through accruals being based on the day+1 HHD and an annual cost saving of £6,000.
